NATURE
OF WORK:
Responsible for a variety of work oriented projects that will provide each participant with employment and leadership skills through participation. Interns must complete at least nine (9) college credits while in the RAISE Graduate Program. Creates, develops, and nurtures culturally appropriate interactions and connections with each other, customer-owners, and the community. Must have a pleasant manner, exhibit a willingness to work with the public and have an attitude of helpfulness towards visitors, clients, co-workers and others. Ability to maintain confidences and not discuss clients, treatments or personal information. Shares and receives information, opinions, concerns, and feedback in a supportive manner. Works collaboratively by building bridges, and creating rapport with team members within departments and across the organization. Must be able to understand, and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to work within a team environment. Participates in joint activities with other groups. Makes meaningful improvement to services, program, and processes and/or organizational effectiveness that creates new value for customer-owners and employees.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Seeks out additional learning opportunities to continue to develop the technical and professional skills needed now and in the future. Takes responsibility for all work activities and personal actions by following through on commitments. Job site duties may include, but are not limited to: Answering telephones, clerical office support (word processing, copying documents, faxing and filing), shopping and other assistance to elderly, fishing, hiking, picking berries and medicinal plants, camping and food preparation, working with children. Participates in special assignments as requested. Participates in community events, public speaking, and attending college classes and training. Attends focus groups as requested. Attends a manager’s meeting during the program. Ability to be on time and work the schedule as indicated. Interns will not smoke, consume alcoholic beverages, unlawfully use controlled substances nor will they provide these items to anyone else. Ability to follow instructions of the department supervisor at all times. Ability to maintain quality, safety and infection control standards.
QUALIFICATIONS:
SCF programs are established for the purpose of serving a primary population comprised of Alaska Natives who are affiliated with the Cook Inlet Region Inc. (CIRI), and Alaska Natives and American Indians within SCF’s geographical service area. Employees should have a thorough understanding of the cultures and the needs of the CIRI members, and of the general culture and needs of Alaska Natives and American Indians. Such knowledge is critical in order to ensure the achievement of the mission and vision of SCF: working together with the Native community to provide the best services with Native staff who value the family and family wellness as the heart of the Native community. Must have obtained either a high school diploma or GED within the past academic year. Must be between the ages of 17 and 19 years of age. Participant must obtain the appropriate authorization from guardians to participate in extra-curricular activities.
