Responsible for working with senior leadership, management and committees to develop and redesign systems and processes to improve the overall effectiveness of Southcentral Foundation and coaches and mentors others on improvement tools and methods.

·         Coordinates meetings of improvement work teams.

·         Works with management to identify members of improvement work teams.

·         Directs the work of the work team in order to meet deadlines and to test change concepts.

·         Ensures effective interpersonal communication within the work team.

Improvement & Innovation:

  1. Makes meaningful improvement to services, program, and processes and/or organizational effectiveness that creates new value for customer-owners and employees.
  2. Manages improvement projects and initiatives identified by management that are of a large scale and tied to corporate initiatives and objectives.

·         Works with management to define and outline goals and objectives of the improvement initiative. 

·         Assists in developing and maintaining processes, systems and action plans. 

·         Monitors progress to improvement project milestones.  

·         Works with appropriate manager to take any necessary follow up or corrective action.

·         Implements and maintains a tracking and notification system ensuring accurate and timely follow up.

·         Works with managers on developing, implementing and evaluating systems. 

·         Assists with and ensures timely and accurate data collection.

·         Assists with researching improvement initiatives and other innovations that could be incorporated into projects. 

  1. Provides consultation to Improvement Specialists and management on improvement across the division or organization. 

·         Coaches and mentors others on improvement tools and methods.

·         Provides feedback and input to others on improvement work teams and projects.

·         Evaluates the effectiveness of improvement tools and methods and provides ideas for improvement of these tools and methods.

·         Keeps current with improvement tools and techniques and shares these innovations across the organization. 

·         Becomes an expert on the Baldrige improvement process and the application within SCF. 

  1. Analyzes work processes using improvement tools and methodology to identify improvement opportunities.

·         Works with management and the improvement team to establish effective measurement and data collection methods.

·         Reviews measures and progress to aim with management and work team and takes appropriate action.

·         Explores best practices across various industries to bring to the work team.

·         Develops, evaluates and implement survey tools.

·         Analyzes data from survey sources in order to provide input into improvement initiatives.

  1. Acts as a resource, mentor and trainer for SCF employee on improvement tools and techniques.

·         Orients employees to improvement tools and processes.

·         Participates and leads training and education to other employees.

·         Answers questions from others on how to do things according to standard procedure and best practices. 

  1. Facilitates the management of the strategic planning and improvement processes. 

·         Ensures alignment with the Mission, Vision, Key Points and Operational Principles of SCF. 

·         Develops and implements long range and short range strategic initiatives and work plans using the SCF strategic planning process and tools. 

·         Monitors progress to work plans and reports on progress using the annual planning tool.

·         Uses improvement tools and methods in the day to day work and ensures use of these tools in all departments assigned.

·         Develops, implements and monitors Balanced Scorecard measures to effectively oversee the long term initiatives of the departments assigned. 

·         Monitors outcomes of effectiveness and develop work plans for improvement and change across all departments assigned. 

·         Trains, educates and deploys improvement tools, methods and processes throughout the departments assigned. 

·         Participates in the corporate strategic planning processes and on improvement work groups and committees.

  10. Demonstrated proficiency to research and implement best practices across industries. 
  11. Demonstrated skill in managing the strategic planning process for the department.

SCF programs are established for the purpose of serving a primary population comprised of Alaska Natives who are affiliated with the Cook Inlet Region Inc. (CIRI), and Alaska Natives and American Indians within SCF’s geographical service area.  Employees should have a thorough understanding of the cultures and the needs of the CIRI members, and of the general culture and needs of Alaska Natives and American Indians.  Such knowledge is critical in order to ensure the achievement of the mission and vision of SCF: working together with the Native community to provide the best services with Native staff who value the family and family wellness as the heart of the Native community.

1.      Master’s degree or equivalent education/training and work experience.

2.      Two (2) years of experience at the Improvement Specialist II level or demonstrated proficiency as an Improvement Specialist II at Southcentral Foundation.
