POSITION Security Officer I, II

Responsible for providing a safe and secure environment for the protection of employees, customer-owners, and visitors by protecting the property against illegal entry, theft, disturbances, fire, harm, and vandalism.


Customer Care & Relationships:

  1. Creates, develops, and nurtures culturally appropriate interactions and connections with each other, customer-owners, and the community.
  2. Maintains a line of communication between the employee, security officers and law enforcement agencies.
  3. Performs walking patrols of the buildings, grounds, and parking lots as directed.

·         Ensures proper identification is work by SCF employees and contractors, and tracks compliance on a monthly basis.

·         Ensures assigned fire extinguishers are inspected and properly documented.

·         Provides directions for customer-owners, employees and visitors.

·         Escorts visitors and employees.

·         Enforces parking regulations and procedures.

·         Enforces our tobacco-free campus policy.

  1. Conducts security surveillance.

·         Patrols grounds and buildings for unauthorized persons and safety issues.

·         Warns violators of safety and security rules, and restrains persons engaging in hostile or criminal acts. 

·         Enforces visiting procedures within scope of authority.

·         Protects accident, crime scenes, and security evidence.

·         Provides information and assistance within the scope of authority. 

·         Prepares log entries and incident reports according to established guidelines.

  1. Implements emergency procedures when appropriate or as directed.

·         Responds to and assists with medical emergencies, alarms and other security related occurrences; sounds alarm and calls police or fire department as required.

·         Renders first-aid and Basic Life Support as a first responder.

  1. Controls access to facilities.

·         Provides access control to sensitive areas.

·         Locks and unlocks entrances and exits not controlled by electronic egress locks.

·         Checks areas not in use during evening, nights, weekends, and holidays during rounds.

  1. Shares and receives information, opinions, concerns, and feedback in a supportive manner.
  2. Works collaboratively by building bridges, and creating rapport with team members within departments and across the organization.

Additional responsibilities for Security Officer II: Meets all requirements of Security Officer I in addition to the following:

Customer Care and Relationships

1.      Coordinates Security front line response to incidents and disasters.

Communications & Teamwork:

1.      Makes necessary changes to schedules in the event of unexpected absences. 

2.      Demonstrates knowledge of SCF policies and procedures governing personnel duty day, time worked, leave, monitoring technologies and emerging issues.

Improvement & Innovation:

1.      Trains new security officers or other personnel and provides on-going training opportunities and refreshers.

2.      Assists in the recommendation, development and implementation and enforcement of improvements to systems and procedures.

3.      Develops training procedures based on the identified improvement process.




SCF programs are established for the purpose of serving a primary population comprised of Alaska Natives who are affiliated with the Cook Inlet Region, Inc. (CIRI), and Alaska Natives and American Indians within SCF’s geographical service area.  All employees should have a thorough understanding of the cultures and the needs of the CIRI members, and of the general culture and needs of Alaska Natives and American Indians.  Such knowledge is critical in order to ensure the achievement of the mission and vision of SCF: working together with the Native community to provide the best services with Native staff who value the family and family wellness as the heart of the Native community.

  1. High school diploma or GED.
  2. Must possess certification in Basic Life Support within six (6) months of hire.
  3. Must possess Basic Training certification from International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) within six (6) months of hire.
  4. At least eighteen (18) years of age.
  5. Valid Alaska driver’s license.
  6.  No more than 3 moving traffic violations (as defined by Alaska Statutes Title 28) or 2 at-fault traffic accidents in the previous three (3) years.
  7. The driver must not have had a ‘Driving Under the Influence’ (DUI) or ‘Driving While Intoxicated’ (DWI) violation in the past five (5) years.

Additional Qualifications for Security Officer II: Meets all requirements of Security Officer  I in addition to the following:

1.       At least one (1) year of security experience or equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.

2.      Successful completion of job progression to Security Officer II. 

Working Environment:

·         Employee may be exposed to: wet or humid non-weather (under 1/3 time); exposure to bloodborne pathogens (to 2/3 time); hazardous waste (under 1/3 time); outdoor weather conditions (over 2/3 time).

  • Noise level: Moderate noise (i.e. business office with computers and printers, light traffic).

 Physical Demands:

·         Position requires: stand (over 2/3 time); walk (over 2/3 time); sit (under 1/3 time); use hands to finger, handle or feel (over 2/3 time); reach with hands and arms (over 2/3 time); talk or hear (over 2/3 time); taste or smell (under 1/3 time)

·         Weight lifted or force exerted: Up to 10 pounds (under 1/3 time), Up to 25 pounds (to 2/3 time).

·         Special vision requirements: Distance Vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more), Color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors), Peripheral Vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point). Depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships).

·         Additional physical demands: this position requires driving; employee may be required to work holidays, evenings, weekends, and nights; employee must be able to respond when needed by prompt appearance at a required location; the employee is able to work under physically and emotionally stressed conditions.
