NATURE OF WORK:

Responsible for managing corporate communications planning and execution; management of internal and external corporate communications – including both print and electronic format; managing and leading internal editorial board meetings and messaging meetings; serves as managing editor of corporate publications. Works closely with PR Specialists to ensure communications strategy and materials for SCF programs and departments are aligned with corporate branding and style standards and are “on message.”



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Customer Care & Relationships:

  1. Creates, develops, and nurtures culturally appropriate interactions and connections with each other, customer-owners, and the community.
  2. Responds to internal and external requests, questions, and comments.
  3. Works hand-in-hand with PR Specialists to manage communications strategy and appropriate messaging.
  4. Manages the technical writer and preparation and final review of talking points, written testimony, and formal correspondence and communications on behalf of SCF leadership and internal departments and programs.
  5. Manages the technical writer to support the preparation and review of workshop proposals and abstracts, maintaining corporate fact sheets and biographies, presentations (including edits to language in PowerPoint), journal articles and abstracts, and grants and proposals.

 

Communications & Teamwork:

  1. Shares and receives information, opinions, concerns, and feedback in a supportive manner.
  2. Works collaboratively by building bridges, and creating rapport with team members within departments and across the organization.
  3. Handles both positive and negative interactions in a constructive manner and in accordance with SCF philosophy.
  4. Participates in staff meetings providing input and feedback to the team in a positive manner.
  5. Communicates information positively and promptly both in person and in writing.
  6. Manages SCF’s internal Editorial Board Meetings and Messaging Meetings to analyze and plan effective communications.

7.      Manages the planning, coordination, review and execution of print and electronic communications, including news stories and features, newsletters, websites, articles, new releases, public service announcements, fact sheets, fliers, display materials, banners, magazine articles, books, brochures, technical reports, award nominations and other written materials.

 

  1. Provides technical and functional direction to assigned staff and reviews and controls quality of work to ensure communications and editorial content appropriately represents SCF and is accurate and factual.
  2. Uses excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to synthesize complex information from a variety of sources and present to a general audience in a compelling way.

 

Improvement & Innovation:

  1. Makes meaningful improvement to services, program, and processes and/or organizational effectiveness that creates new value for customer-owners and employees.
  2. Utilizes Balanced Scorecard and Dashboard tools and data to make effective decisions.
  3. Uses and deploys improvement tools, methods and processes within the department.

4.      Manages technical writer in conducting background research and analysis in order to develop story/message concepts as well as to prepare responses to internal and external inquiries on a variety of topics as requested.  Utilizes sources such as CDC, SAMHSA, ANTHC, EpiCenters, LisServs, U.S. Census, etc. to fact check and pull data, statistics, etc., that supports SCF’s position on an issue or corporate objective.

 

  1. Mentors PR Specialists in creating effective strategies and approaches for use in public communications programs for various platforms, including social media, online communications, print and electronic.
  2. Analyzes communication needs, interpret, and develop ideas, and conceptualize, visualize, and develop best approaches to achieve desired results for assigned projects.

QUALIFICATIONS:

SCF programs are established for the purpose of serving a primary population comprised of Alaska Natives who are affiliated with the Cook Inlet Region Inc. (CIRI), and Alaska Natives and American Indians within SCF’s geographical service area.  Employees should have a thorough understanding of the cultures and the needs of the CIRI members, and of the general culture and needs of Alaska Natives and American Indians.  Such knowledge is critical in order to ensure the achievement of the mission and vision of SCF: working together with the Native community to provide the best services with Native staff who value the family and family wellness as the heart of the Native community.

 

1.      Bachelor’s degree in public relations, journalism, or English, or a combination of education and experience..

2.      Five (5) years of communications, public relations or journalism experience.
