Valley Native PCC

In 2000, Southcentral Foundation became the first major healthcare provider in the nation to give its customers same-day access to quality medical care for any reason. This innovation was extended to Mat-Su Borough residents in February 2005, when the Valley Native Primary Care Center opened its doors. Like the customers of the Anchorage Native Primary Care Center (PCC), the customers of the Valley PCC have access to their own health care provider on the same day they call for an appointment.

Southcentral Foundation offers basic medical care for eligible families at the Valley native Primary Care Center in Wasilla. In addition to primary care, other services include limited pharmacy, laboratory, radiology and immunization. SCFC also contracts for primary care with Sunshine Community Health Center in Talkeetna and Willow.

Will Southcentral Foundation pay for Urgent or Emergency care in the Mat-Su Valley?

After-hours (after 5pm, weekends, and holidays) urgent care concerns can be addressed at Alaska Native Medical Center. If a patient's medical condition warrants immediate attention, urgent care can be accessed at Mat-Su Regional Urgent Care (formerly AIC) in Wasilla. Emergent care can be accessed at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center's Emergency Department (formerly Valley Hospital ER) in Palmer.

SCF will not be responsible for payment of non-urgent or non-emergent care at either the Mat-Su Regional urgent Care, or the Mat-Su Regional Medical center. An urgent event is defined as an illness or occurrence that could become an emergency if not treated promptly. An emergent event is an illness or occurrence that is an immediate threat to life &/or limb requiring immediate medical attention.

Patients with an emergency who need admission to the hospital will be assessed at the mat-Su Regional Medical Center (MRMC) Emergency Department. Southcentral Foundation will pay for the patient to stat at MRMC until he or she is medically stable for transport to the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage. if the patient has another payer source (private insurance, or use of personal funds); the patient may elect to stay at the Mat-Su Regional Medical Center, but at their own financial risk. SCF will pay for emergency ambulance service to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center in Palmer. The ANMC Contract Health Department will fund medically necessary ambulance transportation from Mat-Su Regional Medical Center to Alaska Native MEdical Center once the patient is medically stable.

Service Guidelines

Services not provided at the approved Valley clinics will be scheduled at Alaska Native Medical Center through the patient's Primary Care Provider. The services include, but are not limited to optometry, dental, behavioral health, specialty, emergency, and inpatient care. Southcentral Foundation does not pay for referrals, follow-up care or specialty care that is obtained outside of the SCF/ ANMC system.

Patients utilizing their own insurance who choose to access healthcare through non-SCF connected healthcare providers and facilities will be responsible for all co-payments and costs not covered through their respective payer. If a patient is not registered at ANMC at the time of his or her first appointment at one of the approved Valley clinics (Valley Native Primary Care Center, Sunshine Community Health Center in Talkeetna & Willow), the patient must be prepared to meet ANMC eligibility requirements.
