April Happenings at SCF

Southcentral Foundation works to provide customer-owners the activities and connections they want. Below is a highlight of what SCF is bringing to the community and customer-owners during the month of April. This list is does not include all happenings, and contains links to full calendars. SCF invites feedback, so if we missed something, please use the link to the contact form and let your voice be heard.

  • Child Abuse Prevention & Sexual Assault Awareness Month

    • Join #healthytraditions during the month of April at Friday fairs  in the Anchorage Native Primary Care Center lobby. Informational booths and activities will be held from 11 a.m.–noon, followed by a special speaker/activity from noon–1 p.m.

      • April 14 – Andy Clary with Safe Families for Children
      • April 21 – Lorraine Willis with STAR Alaska
      • April 28 – FWWI Outreach Team will teach how to make fry bread

  • Mt. Marathon Store Grand Opening

    • Join SCF in the Mt. Marathon Building for the grand opening of the Mt. Marathon Store. Healthy snacks, vitamins, and exercise aids will be available for purchase, as well as Kaladi Brothers coffee.
    • Wednesday, April 5 will be the official opening day with store hours from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Alaska Cleft Lip & Palate Program at SCF

    • April 10-11, the second cleft lip and palate clinic will take place at the AMNC dental clinic.

  • SCF Family Gathering Potluck – Anchorage

    • Bring your family and a dish to share at this monthly community gathering. All are welcome.
    • April 21 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m in The Gathering Room in the Mt. Aklun Building, located at 4501 Diplomacy Drive.

  • Upcycling Competition – Anchorage and Wasilla

    • SCF encourages its employees to be green. To celebrate Earth Day, employees are challenged to upcycle by creating something new with at least 75% reused material. When items are completed, they need to be judged, and to do that, we need YOU!
    • April 21 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., stop by the ANPCC or VNPCC lobby to vote on your favorite upcycled item.

  • Beauty for Ashes – Anchorage

    • Beauty for Ashes is a faith-based conference designed to educate and train individuals on how to interact with, work with and respond to those whose lives have been impacted by domestic violence, abuse, and neglect.
    • The spring session will be held April 24 through April 28.

  • April Learning Circles – Anchorage and Wasilla

    • Join one of the many learning circles featured in both Anchorage and Wasilla.
    • Wellness Matters Night happens in both Anchorage and Wasilla. Join SCF for a free meal beginning at 5:30 p.m. and participate in a variety of activities to strengthen and build relationships.

  • April Exercise Calendars – Anchorage and Wasilla

    • Take your pick of exercise classes offered at the Mt. Marathon Building in Anchorage, or in the VNPCC Wellness Center.
    • Classes are offered Monday through Friday, and offer a variety of classes like spin, yoga, zumba and even Insanity.

  • Alaska Women’s Recovery Project Activities – Anchorage

    • AWRP holds weekly events geared toward Alaska women.
    • One of the events this month is a weekly relationship support circle, helping women define what healthy relationships look like and working on relationship skills.
