Toy Making Allows Men to Connect While Giving Back to the Community

The Men’s Cultural Learning Circle meets Thursdays from 6 to 7:30 p.m. For more information, visit www.southcentralfoundation.com/learning-circles.

Learning circles are opportunities for people to connect and build relationships through a variety of wellness activities. The Men’s Cultural Learning Circle is comprised of male customer-owners who are interested in engaging in culturally relevant activities such as storytelling, drum making, and dancing. Though the group gathers weekly — primarily to share food and story, and to work with their hands — this learning circle provides more than cultural connectivity to its members; it provides a means of giving back the community.

For the second year, the Men’s Cultural Learning Circle built and gifted holiday toys to children in Alaska. This year, participants constructed small wooden cars that were distributed to a variety of shelters from Anchorage all the way to Kenai.
