Team Testimonials

“After years of working in international settings with Doctors Without Borders and other organizations, I came to Alaska seeking another meaningful professional adventure. What I found was an experience unlike any other — one that transformed both my career and my perspective on medicine. The customer-owners we care for teach me every day, make me laugh, make me connect, and make me a human in a world where medicine is frequently dealt with in ‘shifts’ and ‘fill the box’. At SCF, I am part of a team committed to continuous improvement, innovation, and customer-owner centered care. The opportunity to build lasting relationships with customer-owners, take the time to understand their needs, and support meaningful health outcomes is incredibly rewarding. This environment allows providers to make a genuine difference while growing professionally and personally.”

Dr. Reinou Groen, Physician, Medical Director OB-GYN

“I was drawn to Southcentral Foundation because of its relationship-based model of care and commitment to Alaska Native and American Indian communities. What has kept me here is the collaborative culture — I never feel like I’m making difficult decisions alone, and everyone is working toward the same goal of providing the best care for customer-owners. The most rewarding part is building long-term relationships with families and seeing customer-owners return because they felt heard, respected, and cared for. If you are looking for a place where teamwork, purpose, and meaningful connections are at the heart of medicine, SCF is a truly special place.”

Dr. Melissa Tondre, Physician, Medical Director OB-GYN

“I initially chose Alaska as a unique and beautiful place to raise a family, but found my professional calling at Southcentral Foundation. Practicing maternal-fetal medicine here offers a rewarding combination of clinical complexity, professional autonomy, and purpose. Caring for customer-owners across Alaska means collaborating with obstetricians, family physicians, midwives, and rural healthcare teams through telemedicine and in-person consultations. We help families navigate complex pregnancies and important decisions while providing high-quality care across a vast region.

What makes Southcentral Foundation truly special is its commitment to caring for the whole person. With strong case management, behavioral health, and social services, I’m able to focus on providing the best possible medical care. Having the privilege of caring for Alaska Native and American Indian families as they grow their families reminds me every day why I chose this field.”
