How to Serve on the Southcentral Foundation Board of Directors

About the Board

Southcentral Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors. The board consists of up to nine members who are appointed by the Cook Inlet Region, Inc. Board of Directors. Through the lens of customer-ownership, the SCF Board of Directors is responsible for policy making, oversight, selection of CEO, decision making, and fiduciary duties. Directors must always act in the best interest of the stakeholders.

SCF is a regional nonprofit healthcare organization operating under the Tribal Authority of Cook Inlet Region, Inc. (“CIRI”) pursuant to P.L. 93-638, the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act.

What is expected of a Southcentral Foundation Board Member?

SCF Board members are required to have specialized knowledge and expertise in SCF’s Nuka System of Care, clinical quality, and safety, Baldrige Performance Excellence Program, health disparities of community, financing including IHS, Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance, compliance, regulatory requirements, certifications, audits, risk management, clinical practice requirements, use of data including trends, benchmarks, best practices, workforce, research requirements including Institutional Review Board and Tribal review.

Qualifications for Board of Directors

SCF encourages qualified CIRI shareholders and their descendants to submit a letter of interest and resume for consideration. The SCF Executive Committee assesses candidates based upon the following criteria:

Knowledge and/or experience of CIRI
Experience working in Tribes and Tribal organizations
Experience working in health care
Knowledge of business practices
Professional background
- For example, medical, nursing, dental, behavioral health, administrative, or executive
Knowledge and experience of Tribal governance
Knowledge and experience working with non-profit organizations
Knowledge and/or experience working with the Bureau of Indian Affairs or Indian Health Service (IHS)
Ability of candidate to commit sufficient time to SCF BOD activities

Interested candidates are invited to submit a letter of interest that outlines their knowledge and/or experience.

The SCF Board of Directors evaluates candidates and makes recommendations to CIRI for future board appointments.
