Pediatric Hospitalists

Pediatric Hospitalists at Southcentral Foundation

Pediatric Hospital Medicine is a team of pediatric physicians, neonatal nurse practitioners, and pediatric nurse practitioners specialized in the care of hospitalized and sick children and infants admitted at the Alaska Native Medical Center, the tertiary care hospital for the Alaska Region of the Indian Health Service.

The scope of practice is broad as the department is responsible for children admitted to the pediatric ward, newborn nursery, and level 2 neonatal intensive care unit. The team attends all high-risk deliveries, provides care for pediatric traumas, provides consultations in the emergency department, answers pediatric consult requests, and arranges pediatric medical transport for regional hospitals throughout Alaska.

Pediatric Hospital Medicine provides a collaborative, evidence-based approach to care while working closely with pediatric subspecialists and ancillary employees, including bedside nurses, pediatric pharmacists, dieticians, therapists, and social workers.

Enjoy collaborative approach.

The team works closely with each other, pediatric subspecialists, nurses, and ancillary employees to provide evidence-based care.

Enjoy the challenge of practicing resourceful, high-acuity pediatric medicine in a collaborative environment.

Physicians develop broad clinical expertise while caring for complex customer-owners with support from regional partners and coordinating transfers for services such as ECMO, cardiothoracic surgery, and neurosurgery when needed.

Enjoy complex care coordination.

Many of the children and families we support live in remote villages off the road system and far from healthcare services.

Team Testimonials

“I first came to Alaska in 2015 as part of my residency training, working in Bethel and providing care to children in remote village communities. After completing training in 2017, I chose Pediatric Hospital Medicine at Alaska Native Medical Center because I was inspired by the breadth of practice and opportunities to create systems-based improvements for children across the state. I’m also passionate about medical education and encouraging future physicians to pursue tribal health careers in Alaska. I’m grateful that SCF supports my work with the University of Washington Medical School and Seattle Children’s Residency Program, where I continue advocacy.”

“What drew me to Southcentral Foundation was its focus on relationships and the opportunity to care for Alaska Native and American Indian families during such an important time in their lives. The first days with a newborn are unforgettable, and it’s a privilege to be part of that journey. I value our collaborative culture, where everyone works together to support customer-owners. Beyond customer-owner care, I enjoy contributing through education and quality improvement. The most rewarding moments are seeing families leave with greater confidence and support. SCF is a place where you’re encouraged to grow, challenged to learn, and surrounded by people who truly care.”
