Specialty Pediatrics

Specialty Pediatrics at Southcentral Foundation

At SCF, Specialty Pediatrics offers pediatricians the opportunity to practice comprehensive, relationship-based medicine within the nationally recognized Nuka System of Care. The team cares for children with a broad range of medical, developmental, behavioral, and complex health needs providing specialty consultation for customer-owners.

Specialty Pediatrics focuses on providing integrated pediatric, subspeciality, and multidisciplinary services for children with chronic illnesses and medical complexity living across Alaska. We coordinate with families to provide multidisciplinary care during trips to Anchorage to minimize time spent on medical travel and maximize time at home with family and community. General pediatric providers in Specialty Pediatrics can expect to:

  • Develop lasting relationships with children and families across Alaska.
  • Collaborate closely with providers and pediatric subspecialists statewide.
  • Provide remote pediatric consultations.
  • Assist in developing integrated systems of pediatric care across organizations in the Alaska Tribal Health System.
  • Make a meaningful difference for children with complex health needs while supporting care close to home.

SCF is committed to helping pediatricians build fulfilling, sustainable careers. Enjoy manageable clinical volume expectations, one hour of paid wellness time each week, comprehensive health insurance, and a generous retirement plan, all designed to support both the care you provide and your own well-being.

You will have the opportunity to build long-term relationships with children and families while addressing the full range of factors that influence their health. Whether you are managing a complex medical condition, supporting a child’s development, helping parents navigate behavioral concerns, or coordinating specialty care, your work can have a lasting impact.

You will also have opportunities to coordinate care for children with complex conditions and connect families with specialists in areas such as neurology, rheumatology, pulmonology, genetics, hematology, oncology, surgery, infectious disease, and endocrinology.

This breadth creates a practice environment where you can use the full range of your pediatric expertise while continuing to grow professionally.

Expand Your Impact Across Alaska

SCF is helping expand access to pediatric specialty care beyond Anchorage through the Alaska Subspecialty Pediatric Network.

The network expands pediatric endocrinology and diabetes services across Alaska, helping children and families access high-quality specialty care more easily and quickly. As a pediatrician at SCF, you will be part of this broader effort to improve access and strengthen the pediatric care system for communities throughout the state.

Team Testimonials

“I originally wanted to work at SCF because I wanted to serve the children and families of Alaska. That has absolutely been the case, and it has been an incredibly rewarding experience. What I did not expect, however, was how supportive and collaborative my colleagues would be. My position here has been fulfilling in so many ways and truly unlike any role I have held in the past. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to serve the community while working alongside such an amazing team.”

Irisa Devine,
Pediatric Neurologist

“I joined Specialty Pediatrics to work with families from across Alaska to support their children with medical complexity. It has been a privilege to build relationships with families caring for children in communities with varying levels of resources and access to the health care system. This work has allowed me to think both at an individual and system level as we partner with organizations and providers across Alaska and beyond.”

David Bridgman-Packer,
Pediatrician

“I have worked in outpatient pediatrics at the Alaska Native Medical Center since 1999, after spending a year there as a locums physician. That experience led me to fall in love with Alaska and the Alaska Native people and decide to make Alaska my permanent home. ANMC is a beautiful facility with access to a wide range of services, and the work is interesting, unique, and rewarding. I love meeting families from across Alaska and learning about their lives in some of the most remote places in the United States. I am grateful for the time to hear their stories, amazing coworkers who feel like family, and, of course, the incredible potlucks!”
