Third Annual Birthworkers of Alaska Gathering (formerly the Labor Support Workshop)
Southcentral Foundation, in collaboration with the Alaska Native Birthworkers Community, Alaska Affiliate of the American College of Nurse-Midwives, and Midwives Association of Alaska, invites birthworkers to attend a free two-day pregnancy and birth support workshop Nov. 6-8 on the Alaska Native Health Campus. This workshop is multidisciplinary and is intended for anyone who supports pregnant and/or postpartum people and their families. Special emphasis is on supporting Alaska Native and Native American birthing families in the state.
Sessions will focus on hands-on training in evidence-based care interventions. Engage with fellow birthworkers on relevant topics including perinatal bereavement, secondary trauma in health care, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation therapy, respectful care for Alaska Native families, maternal mental health, and more.
Nov. 7 and 8 will be free to register and will offer short hands-on sessions and opportunities for building connections and sharing knowledge. New this year, SCF will host longer workshops on Friday, Nov. 6. Details on pricing TBA. Continuing education will be available for all three days. Lunch will be provided Nov. 7 and 8.
