The Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes Clinic at Southcentral Foundation’s Anchorage Native Primary Care Center has been providing care for Alaska Native and American Indian children across Alaska with hormone-related conditions since 2011.

Southcentral Foundation’s Alaska Subspecialty Pediatric Network has a team of three pediatric endocrinologists, two nurses, a dietitian and diabetes educator, and additional case management support, the team can support children regardless of IHS status within the entire State of Alaska.

Scheduling an Appointment

A referral is needed to schedule an appointment with a pediatric endocrinologist. Speak with your child’s primary care provider to determine if a referral is right for your child. Referrals can be received through the Cerner electronic health record, Alaska Federal Health Care Access Network (AFHCAN), or by sending a fax to 907-729-5425. Once the scheduling team receives your referral, a provider will review it, and a member of the team will contact you to schedule an appointment.

To schedule a follow-up appointment, call the office at 907-729-6210 and speak to case management support.

Wasilla: Benteh Nuutah Valley Native Primary Care Center or Ptarmigan Pediatrics
Bethel: Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta Regional Hospital
Southeast Alaska: locations to be determined
Fairbanks: Chief Andrew Isaac Health Center or Family Health Partners in Fairbanks
Nome: Norton Sound Regional Hospital

Clinic hours will vary by location. Your case management team will be available Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where should I go? When your child’s appointment is scheduled, a case management support person will let you know where to go for your appointment. If the appointment is a virtual visit, the case management support person will send you a link to connect.
How long is the visit? Initial visits are generally about one hour long. Additional labs or x-rays may be ordered that can make the appointment last longer. Follow-up visits are usually 30-45 minutes long. For children with diabetes, please plan to spend extra time with the diabetes educator after seeing your provider. The time will vary based on the visit.
Who will my child see during the appointment? After being checked in by a certified medical assistant, your child will meet with the pediatric endocrinologist. Depending on your child’s health care needs, they may also meet with a nurse, diabetes educator, dietitian, and/or behavioral health consultant.
What should I bring for an appointment? Bring all medications, diabetes devices (blood sugar monitors, continuous glucose monitors, insulin pumps, logbooks), and any questions you have. If you received a new patient packet prior to the appointment, please complete and bring it to the appointment.
Do you offer telemedicine visits? Yes! When appropriate, your child, along with a parent or guardian, can attend follow-up appointments by video over the secure Zoom platform. Initial appointments are typically scheduled in-person, but there may be circumstances where an initial visit is conducted virtually.
Can I contact your office on MyHealth? No. However, you can review your chart notes, lab, and Xray results, along with other medical information on MyHealth.
