November is American Indian and Alaska Native. Heritage Month! To celebrate, SCF will be hosting a variety of events, including opportunities for you to have your regalia photo professionally taken. Check back periodically to see what information has been updated, winners announced, and more!

Ways to get involved and show your heritage pride at Southcentral Foundation:

Get Your Regallia Picture Taken

Wear your regalia on Friday and have your photo taken by the SCF Public Relations Team. Below are the event times and locations:

Friday, November 2, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Nuka Learning and Wellness Center, on the Alaska Native Health Campus

Friday, November 9, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Mt. Ahklun Building, in the Gathering Room, on the Alaska Native Health Campus

Friday, November 16, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Anchorage Native Primary Care Center Lobby, on the Alaska Native Health Campus

Friday, November 30, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Benteh Nuutah Valley Native Primary Care Center Lobby

Do you have an amazing memory of traditional activities? Did your grandmother or grandfather pass on their wisdom of the traditional way of life? Do you love a certain part of your Native heritage? Do you have language skills that you want to pass on? If so, share your story or tradition with us by submitting through the form on the right.

Celebrate Your Heritage in the Valley

Join the Benteh Nuutah Valley Native Primary Care Center team for a Cultural Gathering on Friday, November 30, from 4 to 6 p.m. This family-friendly affair will be a potluck event, including:

  • Traditional dishes
  • Regalia photo booth
  • Dancing and drumming group
  • Alaska Native vendor tables
  • and more!

Tuesday, November 13, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., join in on Arctic Entries, Season 10. Arctic Entries brings Alaskans to the stage to share their personal stories. For more information, click here.

Winona LaDuke, Indigenous Author and Activist, Speaks at UAA

Award-winning Indigenous author, economist, environmentalist and activist Winona LaDuke—who twice ran for Vice President on the Green Party ticket—will visit Anchorage Nov. 8–9 for a public speaking tour, presented by the UAA/APU Books of the Year program and Alaska Airlines.
