Third Annual Birthworkers of Alaska Gathering (formerly the Labor Support Workshop)
Southcentral Foundation, in collaboration with the Alaska Native Birthworkers Community, Alaska Affiliate of the American College of Nurse-Midwives, and Midwives Association of Alaska, invites birthworkers to attend a free two-day pregnancy and birth support workshop Nov. 7-8 on the Alaska Native Health Campus. This workshop is multidisciplinary and is intended for anyone who supports pregnant and/or postpartum people and their families. Special emphasis is on supporting Alaska Native and Native American birthing families in the state.
Sessions will focus on hands-on training in evidence-based care interventions. Engage with fellow birthworkers on relevant topics including perinatal bereavement, secondary trauma in health care, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation therapy, respectful care for Alaska Native families, maternal mental health, and more.
Lunch will be provided and continuing education units will be available for both days.
